AdaptTable for Angular Material
Pivot tables in Angular Material
Grouping answers “what is the total per team”. A pivot answers “what is the total per team per status”, and that second dimension becomes columns your data never had.
Fields move between the three zones with buttons rather than drag, so the pivot can be built from the keyboard. Subtotals close every group and a grand total closes the table.
The configuration — axes, measures, aggregation and what you folded — lives in the URL, so a pivot you build is a pivot you can send someone.
The code
import { Component, computed, input } from "@angular/core";
import { AdaptDataTable } from "@adapttable/angular-material";
import {
AdaptPivotPanel, injectPivotUrlState, pivot, pivotTableModel,
type PivotField,
} from "@adapttable/angular-material/pivot";
@Component({
selector: "app-spend",
imports: [AdaptDataTable, AdaptPivotPanel],
template: `
<adapt-pivot-panel
[fields]="fields" [config]="state.config()"
[onChange]="state.onConfigChange"
/>
<adapt-data-table
[data]="model().rows" [columns]="model().columns"
[rowKey]="model().rowKey" [summaryRow]="model().summaryRow"
/>
`,
})
export class Spend {
readonly rows = input.required<readonly Person[]>();
readonly fields: readonly PivotField[] = [
{ key: "team", label: "Team" }, { key: "status", label: "Status" },
{ key: "budget", label: "Budget" },
];
readonly state = injectPivotUrlState({
urlKey: "p",
defaultConfig: {
rows: ["team"], columns: ["status"],
measures: [{ key: "budget", agg: "sum" }],
},
});
readonly model = computed(() => pivotTableModel(
pivot(this.rows(), this.state.config(), { collapsed: this.state.collapsed() }),
{ fields: this.fields },
));
}

The same feature in the other kits
- Pivot tables in Unstyled — Native elements — your own CSS
- Pivot tables in NG-ZORRO — Ant Design components for Angular
- Pivot tables in ng-bootstrap — Bootstrap styling, Angular overlays
- Pivot tables in Angular Aria — Accessible behavior, precise styling
- Pivot tables in ngx-bootstrap — Bootstrap controls and overlays
- Pivot tables in Angular CDK — CDK behavior, a neutral theme
- Pivot tables in Spartan — Sharp borders, subtle elevation

More Angular Material features
- Filtering in Angular Material — Ranges, selects, an AND/OR tree and chips — all in the URL.
- Column management in Angular Material — Show, hide, reorder, pin and resize — from a menu you did not write.
- Column groups in Angular Material — Spanning headers that collapse to a stub, a kept child, or a custom cell.
- Row selection in Angular Material — A set of ids that survives paging, with bulk actions over it.
- Rows in Angular Material — Pin rows from a 3-dot menu, and merge a team that runs down the page.
- Row reordering in Angular Material — Drag or keyboard moves, announced — the host writes.
- Inline cell editing in Angular Material — Native editors in the cell; every write goes through your handler.
- Row grouping in Angular Material — Drag, select or keyboard grouping, with totals in the headers.
- Aggregation in Angular Material — Footer totals, pinned summaries, group aggregates — not data rows.
- Nested tables in Angular Material — A real table under a row — same engine, own columns, own keys.
- CSV export in Angular Material — One toolbar button, a CSV of the table as it stands.
- Row and column virtualization in Angular Material — 40,000 rows in a scroll box, only the visible ones rendered.
- Tree data in Angular Material — Nesting, chevrons, lazy children, and a tree on phones.
- Mobile cards in Angular Material — Every row becomes a card on phones. Automatically, with the same state.
- Saved views in Angular Material — Name an arrangement and restore it from the menu.
- Spreadsheet formulas in Angular Material — ROUND, POWER, SQRT, IF — computed columns, errors in the cell.
- Right-to-left Angular Material data table — Arabic strings, a flipped axis, and a popover that opens from the right edge.
- Live updates in Angular Material — Rows change while you read them. Sort and selection hold.
- Accessible Angular Material data table — Arrow-key focus, a visible ring, forced-colors, and live announcements.
- AI table assistant in Angular Material — Local sort, questions and approved edits with real table outcomes.
